GORE I DOLE
In the coming weeks, things will be topsy-turvy in the Schlumper Galerie.
Under the title “Gore I Dole” (a Serbo-Croatian phrase meaning “over and under” or “topsy-turvy”), works by four artists will be presented. Magid Ajjane and Mawuena Ahadzie are members of the Schlumper atelier team, and renowned Hamburg artists Marc Lüders und Dragan Prgomelja will join as guests.
The pictures are involved with overpainting in the broadest sense. This technique, now an artistic genre of its own, appears here as neither correction nor restoration. Nor is it an act of destruction, but rather an effective opportunity for expression. The original works take on another character and sometimes a completely new meaning. Totally different levels are clearly defined: the over, the under, the before, and the after.
In terms of style and content, these four artists treat the technique and material in very different ways. Nonetheless, the pictures in the exhibition all have something in common: they awaken our curiosity for what lies beneath. The covered and the covering both inspire a new and differentiated way of seeing.

Wie wird unsere Gesellschaft aussehen? Wird sie gesünder, perfekter, oder sogar makelloser? Aufgrund des medizinischen Fortschritts erscheint dies nicht mehr utopisch. Immer mehr Krankheiten können behandelt werden, Gene können angepasst werden, alles scheint kontrollierbar. Nun, da wir eine Vorstellung davon haben, wie die Gesellschaft in Zukunft aussehen könnte, bleibt die Frage, in welcher Gesellschaft wir leben wollen.
Wit.h und Dr. Guislain Museum brachten bildende und darstellende Künstler zusammen, die sich fragen, ob wir wirklich alles wissen wollen, was uns die Wissenschaft sagen kann, denn mit mehr Freiheit kommt mehr Verantwortung. Und wie frei werden wir eigentlich sein, wenn wir diese Entscheidungen treffen?
Blood Test ist nicht nur eine Ausstellung, sondern auch eine Walking Opera, ein Gesamkunstwerk, in dem Musik, bildende Kunst und Theater verschmelzen. Es ist ein Spaziergang neben Briefen, Grabsteinen und durch ein akustisches Labyrinth, wo Sie Halbfiguren, ausgestorbene Tiere und einen ganz außergewöhnlichen Riesen treffen.
Rohullah Kazimi aus dem Atelier der Schlumper ist an dieser Ausstellung beteiligt.

BLOEDTEST
What will our society look like? Will it become healthier, more perfect, flawless even? Because of medical progress this no longer seems utopian. An increasing number of diseases can be treated, genes can be adjusted, everything seems controllable. So now that we have an idea of what society could be like in the future, the question remains in which society we want to live.
Wit.h and Dr. Guislain Museum brought together visual and performing artists who wonder whether we really want to know everything that science can tell us, because with more freedom comes more responsibility. And how free will we actually be when we are making these choices?
Blood Test is not merely an exhibition, but also a Walking Opera, a Gesamkunstwerk in which music, visual arts and theatre merge. It is a walk alongside letters, tombstones and through an acoustic labyrinth, where you will meet semi-characters, extinct animals and quite an extraordinary giant.
Rohullah Kazimi from the Schlumper Studio is taking part in this exhibition.

VISIONÄRE ROHBAUTEN (Visionary Constructions)
An Exhibition in Cooperation with the Hamburg Architecture Summer
The Schlumper Gallery dedicates this exhibition to the subject of architecture, with works by members of the atelier group “Die Schlumper” as well various guest artists.“Die Schlumper” is a group founded in 1980 by the Hamburg artist Rolf Laute. Their studio can be found since 1998 in the “Alte Rinderschlachthalle” [Old Abattoir] in the St. Pauli area of Hamburg. The name “Die Schlumper” is taken from the Hamburg street “Beim Schlump” where the group’s first studio was located.The Schlumper are artists with differing handicaps. They have individual perspectives, each has a personal style and unique subject matter. Some of the artists are involved thematically with visionary constructions, houses, subway stations, and interior decoration. Paintings, drawings, collages, and objects in which the visions of the artists have taken form in recent years have now been brought together in this exhibition.If one would like to place the work of Die Schlumper in a particular artistic category, the term “art brut” with all its artistic originality and authenticity comes to mind. The artistic singularity of the Schlumper artists in their architectural pictures and objects can be seen as a kind of “anarchitecture” – anarchical and distinctive works of art.

HORST WÄßLE
Horst Wäßle was one of the earliest members of the artists´ collective “Die Schlumper” during the 1980s and played an influential role in the development of the group. When “Die Schlumper” were officially recognized by the city of Hamburg in 1993, Horst Wäßle was one of the first to be offered permanent employment as a “Schlumper by Profession.”
Horst Wäßle has evolved a distinct individual style as a painter. He works spontaneously, painting whatever he sees that happens to interest or impress him. His pictures usually depict human or animal figures in everyday situations taken directly from life. He is not an abstract painter, although his figures possess a high degree of abstraction. Proportions are ignored and anatomic details are radically simplified. While his figures exhibit a certain stereotypical form, the persons depicted are unmistakably recognizable due to his keen observation of individual features and characteristics such as styles of clothing.
Horst Wäßle has participated in numerous exhibitions both within Germany and internationally. In addition to the conception and realization of various murals and wall installations, he has also contributed to many on-site works in public spaces. Horst Wäßle is one of the principal members of the creative team working together with schoolchildren in the “Schule der Schlumper”.
There will be a catalogue of the exhibition.

ROLLENBILDER
Eröffnung: Donnerstag, 07.02.2019, 19.00 Uhr
Meist verbindet man mit dem Begriff Rollenbild ein Klischee, bzw. ein tradiertes Bild gesellschaftlich zugeschriebener Rollen. In den Köpfen entstehen z.B. „Frauen- oder Männerbilder“, so auch in dieser Ausstellung. Andere Arbeiten beschäftigen sich mit dem Thema in eine Rolle zu schlüpfen, wie zum Beispiel die Rollen der Superhelden bei Rohullah Kazimi, oder die Rolle des großen Künstlerstars bei Christian Holtmann aus Bremen.
Doch nimmt man es etwas wörtlicher, kann auch etwas ins Rollen kommen und es kommen Räder ins Spiel.
Mit diesem erweiterten Begriffsverständnis lädt die Ausstellung den Betrachter ein, sich von den unterschiedlichsten Assoziationen überraschen zu lassen.
Unter dem Titel ROLLENBILDER zeigt die Galerie der Schlumper in einer Gruppenausstellung Arbeiten von Künstlern des Ateliers der Schlumper, der Kunstwerkstatt 18 des Forensischen Therapiezentrums in Ochsenzoll und weiteren Gästen aus Hamburg und Bremen.
