GOLD & KLEISTER /GOLD & PASTE
Opening: Friday 25 July, 19.00
This summer, the Schlumper Gallery presents a group exhibition by artists from the studio collective Die Schlumper, titled: "Gold & Kleister" (Gold & Paste)
The phrase was coined by artist Katharina Ellrich and originally came from a materials order. Symbolically, it also says a lot about the working methods of some of the artists in the studio.
No distinctions are made here — a found piece of cardboard can be just as valuable as high-quality handmade paper.
The exhibition “Gold & Kleister” invites visitors to reflect on the value and impact of materials. The mix of materials creates tension — and opens up new perspectives on aesthetics, artistic significance, and meaning.
“Gold & Paste” plays with contrasts and raises questions: What is valuable? What gives things meaning? And how do materials change the way we perceive art?
We look forward to your visit!

Magid Ajjane, Stefanie Bubert, Johannes Dechau, Katharina Ellrich, Senem Gürüz, Miriam Hosner, Karl-Ulrich Iden, Silke Marohn, Dominik Nichtern, Nicole Schmuhl, Frank Steiner, Horst Wäßle, u.a.

ES REGNET MENSCHEN / IT’S RAINING PEOPLE
MARTIN GERTLER & MALTE KAISER
Opening: Friday 9 May, 2025, 19.00
The Schlumper Gallery cordially invites you to the exhibition "It's Raining People" – an exciting joint show by artists Martin Gertler and Malte Kaiser, both long-standing members of the Schlumper studio community.
Despite stylistic differences, the works of both artists are united by close attention to detail and a shared fascination with figurative elements. In his latest works, Martin Gertler reduces the human figure to clear, schematic forms – whole clusters of people fall from the sky like raindrops and populate the picture in rhythmic rows.
Malte Kaiser, on the other hand, develops dense, ornamental compositions with abstracted images of human heads, which he also condenses into haunting individual portraits.
"It's Raining People" invites you to a multi-layered examination of the human image – between pattern, individual, and group.
We look forward to your visit!
